Kit combinations

I'm a bit of a kit hoarder.. I like to have many items for many situations. This winter I'll be going on a few trips out with the Bloke in the wintery UK- temps probably will drop to 0'c.

My first proper trip I had:

3-4 season down bag as top quilt
2-3 season synth bag as over-hammock-sock/pod-thing (I was afraid of wind chill)
self inflating mat

And I was very comfy and warrm.

Now I have my hands on one of these babies. I got this because I am a cold sleeper, and it was only a couple of quid more expensive than the winter one.

My questions are:

- Using a sleeping bag designed for mountains and alsorts, do I need a pod?
- If I use the down bag as a pod, do I need a pad?
- Could I change it to a foamy?

Being a hoarder, and a "just in case" kinda person, one night I probably will take my little down bag .. just to try it out. But what do you experienced peoples think?

I think the asnwer is test what you have at home in your back yard. (I think its your garden in UK). Good luck. Report back with what works.

I would but I don't have trees or any proper anchor points.. There is a big shed with L brackets across the ceiling but I have no idea if they would hold my weight , and I'd have to invent a vertical hanging system xD

Agree with wwk10, test somewhere in temps that you expect to encounter close to an easy and planned escape just in case. Car camping is the best way if you don't have a yard/garden, you can take extra gear along and get warm if needed.

Good luck with your hoarding, I think we all have a little of that disease.

Here is a link for creating a stand, I took the idea and created a system to use when I only have one tree to hang from. Since I will always be able to find one good tree.
