Thanks for all of the information. I made her hammock last night, now I am just waiting on the supplies to finish the suspension. I will post pictures of the final project when it is complete and she is happy hanging in it.

As a side note, 5/8" gosgrain is difficult to work with binding an edge. It is too small when folded in half. I ironed it folded in half and applied it to the raw (not rolled) edge of the hammock. While difficult to start, the finished edge looks great! Next time I will get wider grosgrain to work with.

I normally love 7/8. Gives me plenty to work with and after 8 hammocks have grown fond of it. I was forced to use 5/8 to make a tarp (due to color and limited local resources) and I don't think I will go back to 7/8. The larger size was a great teacher but I found 5/8 easier to work with when not ironed and eliminating an extra step was nice. I feel my padawon learner days coming to and end soon.

    Newb Question

Sometimes I fold, sometimes I don't. I've not been able to tell a difference either way.

When I do fold, I do it all in one step as I feed it into this Plain Tape Binder Attachment.[/QUOTE]

What do you guys mean fold or not fold?

One way is to fold the edge of the fabric twice and run one or more rows of stitching down the edge, leaving off the grosgrain ribbon entirely.

Another way is to fold the grosgrain over the raw fabric edge and stitch.

A third way would be to fold the raw fabric edge once and stitch through 2 layers of fabric and grosgrain ribbon.

    Another crude drawing.
