I was showing off my book at work today and the lady I was talking to said, "oh yeah, ham-mock, I know a ham-mock." made me think I was crazy.

quick and smooth, just like my set up. Ham-ick!
ham as in ham, mock as in mockery hammock
Ham-auck....my daughter loves it when I say it that way
I got to blame my Southern reering for my pronunciation of such a fantastical word as Ham-ick.

Hammuck, of course!
Because of this post I have repeated the word 'hammock' out loud at least a hundred times--I am really no closer to determining how I say it, and most of my family is staring at me like I'm insane.
The more I hear myself say it the more inclined I am to think the answer is none of the above. I think I say it like the truly linguistically lazy American that I am--with a schwa in the last syllable... ham-uck. This from the guy that says 'water' like wah-der.
I'm always happier NOT thinking about how I say things.
