Expedition vs Explorer

I'm 6' 1" tall, and I weigh about 235. As mentioned in other threads I can get a Expedition thru REI for $110, however the 6ft, 250 limit concerns me. Should I risk it, or should I just get the Big boy Explorer model for $100 more to be more comfortable and safe

I'm 5'9" and I went with the explorer ultralight. I like having extra room for gear. I also like to have extra room to be more comfortable. If it is not big enough, you will not like it, and end up getting something else later. You may as well go for the right size to begin with. There are so many choices out there, so you may want to research it a bit more. It depends on your use also, backpacking, car camping, etc... I sure liked the Chrysalis and didn't find out about it until I had several hammocks already. I am now restricted from buying anymore hammocks (Hubby says...)

So, I would say research more, but don't purchase something you may not be happy with because it is too small.

You'll find that the majority of folks who've used HH's will recommend the Explorer over the Expedition unless you're a small person and packweight is a major concern over comfort.

I faced a similar challenge (5'6", 200 lbs)...I opted for the Explorer Deluxe whereas my son opted for the Expedition. I'm glad of the choice I made...the Expedition would have been too small/confined for me to be comfortable in.

Think of a first class seat versus an economy seat on an 8 hour flight. The Explorer will be much more comfortable for your size.

I'm 5'11", and while I could fit in my Expedition and sleep quite well, it did feel a bit tight lengthwise. I picked up an Explorer UL, and I don't regret it one bit, it is very nice and roomy in there.

I currently have an Expedition but have been in the market for an Explorer since the first night in the Exped. I prefer the roominess of a larger hammock.

I'm 6' 1", average build. My first hammock was a Hennessy Safari, sized like an expedition. It felt cramped and I moved up immediately to an Explorer Deluxe. Much better!

I am 6ft 2in, 230lbs. I started with the Expedition. It was too small, and I felt quite cramped in it. I then upgraded to the Explorer Deluxe with side zip. Awesome. Very comfortable hammock.
