I use a 0-5lbs postal scale that reads out in ounces. I got it at Staples for around $30. As for what is best? I don't know, this one works fine for me.

I have a biggest loser scale that reads in grams and ounces and have a hand held luggage scale for my packs. I got the biggest loser scale at Bed Bath and Beyond.

I use a Salter that I picked up from Wal-Mart for $20 a few years ago.

I have a wally world scale also. I think it was about $15. Measure grams, ounces and pounds. I think it goes up to 5lbs. So I just weigh everything, then add it up.

I use a Rapala electronic fish scale. It has a 50 lb capacity. It displays pounds and ounces. I only trust it to get to the nearest ounce, if that. It is convenient to use. I don't measure grams because I do not have a good scale for that. I think I got mine at Wally World, but they are constantly changing their product line. I doubt that this item is still available there.

Mine has a hook at the bottom for hanging the item. I use plastic grocery bags to weigh stuff, since they have loop handles and weigh almost nothing.
