    Roo

After viewing this excellent review I went to their website and at a price of $75 (plus they contribute 20% to the needy) I would say this hammock is worth considering.

Great! One correction: KAMMOK (no "ck" in the brand). Thanks Grizz!

I did the shooting on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday it was so windy I couldn't film at the slate table outside, so headed inside to the apartment above the garage. We've got a college student living in the bedroom, and he was trying to study, with me nattering on in the next room. Quietly….

You're welcome. There had been such a lot of hope and expectation expressed on HF for a review when the Roo shipped that I felt like I had to do a thorough job, to try and answer such questions as I could anticipate.

I could tell on picking it up that the fabric was heavier than the stuff I normally use. I just checked now, and on the technical specs page for the Roo on their website they have the accurate weight. That didn't make it into the Kickstarter page though…

Thanks. I got to give those guys full marks for popping up here and dialoging some with us. Remains to see if any of that dialoging impacts their product decisions. There's an awful lot of real hammocking trail experience here to tap from, for those willing to listen and learn.

I get the feeling these folks are for real and see this as a way of making a positive social impact. That's laudable. Myself, I prefer to choose where my giving dollars go, and make sure I know the organizations and how much of the giving is used for administration. I've never been one for the "United Way" model. But that's just me.

Will you please be my copy editor?? Thanks for the heads up on that. I was able to correct everything except the scrolling introduction, which can serve as a permanent reminder that Momma Grizz's eldest son can't spel

Thanks. They said mine would be shipping about now. Looking forward to it, and now that I have the info from your review, I can get some of the mods ready for it.

Grizz, I just finished submitting my review of the KAMMOK Roo to BGT. Here are my measured dimensions:

Weight (includes attached stuff sack): 21.1 oz (598 g)
Weight with carabiners, rope loops: 22.7 oz (643.5 g)
    Length: 129 in (328 cm)
    Width: 72 in (183 cm)
Length of extra strips of grey fabric on sides: 7.5 in (19 cm)
    1 Carabiner: 0.55 oz (16 g)

Is your Roo this big? I have an early model and I wonder if the specs changed much since I received mine. The Roo I have is almost 11 feet long and 6 feet wide! It's HUGE. I have to use a really deep sag to eliminate the flappy edge fabric effect and canoe shape that can happen with large hammocks.

Mine is a tad bit shorter, closer to 120 inches. I have written down 126.5" but that includes an estimate of the fabric length folded over to create the channels.

Same as mine, although there can be quite a bit of variation in the width of the hammock depending on how hard one pulls on it when measuring. Not pulling at all leaves it kind of bunched.

the width of those grey strips is about 7.5" inches

I got 15g on a scale accurate to 0.5g. close enough.

yes, they'd do well to have a ridge-line to help set the sag.

This is a lot like the ENO I have, the key differences being it is a little longer,
the fabric is heavier and smoother, the biner is in the style of a climbing biner, and the stuff sack is classier. In reviewing the advertising literature it talks about light reflecting tracers in the rope that attaches the biner, I missed that before, but just now verified that's another feature.

Looks to me like they looked at the ENO/Treklight/TripToTheMoon/OtherNamelessBrands style that is so popular and figured out how they could increase the quality across the board.

Good to see you back doing reviews. I always enjoy them.

Just one question. Why did you use Henry Mancini's Baby Elephant Walk for music featuring Kangaroos?
