Advice on One Tree Bipod idea

Does this seem reasonable? Can I just lay the suspension from the hammock to the bush over the top of the ladder?
The bush is an azalea I know will NOT budge.

Biggest problem I see is if the hammock rocks the ladder rocks, possibly bringing it all down. A purpose built tripod would work better.

I do believe you are right. I think it has to have an attachment point for the hammock, and an attachment point for the bush strap.

it will probably work fine provided the strap over top of the ladder is secured so it won't slip off the ladder - some years ago there was a similar idea where a notched 2x4 was used instead of the ladder (a monopod if you will) - it also worked fine and was more stable than expected

Unless you are going to secure the suspension to the ladder in a static manner, I think you'd need to secure the ladder to the bush independent of the suspension.

I think orienting the ladder opposite of how I have it is a good idea. That would help with the wobble issue. I'm going to try it in a couple days when it stops raining. I'll report with some pics.

I like this idea, simple and a lot easier to move when your done.

I only have one bush to tie off to. A monopod requires at least two anchors. I dont wont to drive stakes really.

no- as I recall the monopod from a few years ago only had 1 (very good) anchor and yes the hammock did sway but there was a stable position - as the 2x4 went off vertical it was pulled back by increased tension on the hammock support line - again this was from a few years ago and the website that discussed this was http://www.imrisk.com/hammock/singlepolehammock.htm
