Good to hear you'll be working less. I'll have to encourage you to get down the gorge more often.

Sorry you can't make it this year. The gorge will still be there next year, though.

Don't forget to PM me your cell phone if you are coming, so if you're late or if our plans change we know who is planning to be there and we can then contact you. I'll send out a list later this week.

If it's not, we've got bigger things to worry about than hammocks...

Personally, I think it's a lie, but I've been told my snoring can be heard from space, even through a vacuum.
I too would like to see the Whittleton Arch, so I'm up for that.

The descent to rough trail on DB Hut is nice, I've seen turkeys all 4 times I've hiked it, & my admittedly poor memory has it as a gentle descent with one set of steps (stairs). The first (about) 1/4 mile hike up Rough trail (HARD Right at the Jct.) is a "steady" climb. The view at the top is pretty cool, nice place to grab a drink & a snack. For those wanting to pass on the DB hut hike & get a later start, park at (what I call) the military wall parking lot. AKA the second parking lot after going through the tunnel [paved with a privy in the far back corner] the first being just after the tunnel & is just a gravel pull off.
On the hike to or from Gray's arch (Sorry, I can't remember which from that direction) see if you can find VanGoh's "Starry night" carved by nature in stone. If you don't know the painting starry night, you have to walk the first mile up the STT backwards, blindfolded, on your hands.

I'm off all day today & tomorrow.

Honey do MAY be on hold.

If you want to go, too, you might want to meet us at the intersection or camp South of it. I don't think we'll have too much trouble finding you if you're asleep--if my memory serves me well, we'll hear you from our cars.... Kidding..

I'm also liking your idea of looping around the D. Boone Hut trail to get to Gray's Arch. I've only hiked to the hut and back from Martin's Fork, and from the Gray's Arch trailhead to the East, so it would be nice to see that section of trail.

ANOTHER IDEA: If you are leaving your car (Jeep?) at Gray's Arch, we could, if we all wanted, shuttle up to the Double Arch/Auxier Ridge area for a day or even an overnight. We can talk about that on the trail, but it might be a possible way to combine the the trips. I'm, personally, fine with the majority opinion, whatever that may be.

Latest weather forecast is for fair weather through Saturday, with the lowest low in the mid-30's. Sunday still calls for rain, but if its going to rain the hike out is the best time.

    Getting ready....
