I've been reading about hammock camping for a couple of years. I actually had bought some supplies to make one last year. I finally got around to making my first one last night. Here are some pics of it:

Looks great. Cute model, too. Have you slept in it yet?

if you go to wal-mart & buy 3 & 1/2 yards so you will have at least a 10' long piece of fabric, you could get by just fine w/ that if you whip the ends.
if you just want to tie a knot at each end, 4 yards should do the trick.
i would be tempted to say that you could even get by (short term) if you're careful with out even hemming the sides.
i know for a fact that the ends not being sewn is no big deal. ...tim
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Nice hammock.
I made this following info for the Zhammock:
http://www.imrisk.com/zhammock/zhammock.htm
I made it double thick 10' long. All stitching was done with nylon thread. I used 550 parachute cord for the whipping and have 10' of 1" polypro webbing on each end for the suspension system. I used the "W whipping" found on Jeff's website:
http://www.tothewoods.net/HomemadeHammock2.html
I'm going to add a bugnet of some type, either a homemade stuff sack or a set of snake skins for it, and a tarp and I'll be ready to go. I might redo the whipping and use the zip ties instead of the parachute cord.
Looks good but you may have already lost that one if your model does not give it up!
