    Hammock camp near tampa?

I know florida state parks are a no go, was wondering if anyone here has any experience near tampa with a location to camp... don't want to drive the 1.5 to 2 hours to ocala which is safe ground... was looking for something closer... any suggestions?

You might want to talk to Samsara, he is the Forester for the Arbuckle Tract of the Lake Wales Ridge State Forest and he's a fellow hanger. He took a group of us out for a hang about 2 months ago, had a blast. But he should be able to give you a nod for hanging there, even though its a state forest.

Pretty much any of the areas of Withlacoochee Forest (Citrus tract, Green Swamp, Richloam, etc.) are wide open to hammock camping. We just had a group hang at Richloam a back in the Jan/Feb time frame. Lots of good trails and plenty of trees.

Any state forest (not park) is good. Withalacoochee state forest is reasonably close for you. I hung there a couple of weeks ago. It was very dry!

Also water management district lands (SWFWMD) are available. Check their website for details.

Yeah, we would enjoy having you join us for some hangs in the fall. Was watching the weather forecast for this weekend and would love to be out at LWRSF on the creek. No heavy hiking just sitting around the fire but some would be upset if I wasn't around for Easter. Maybe we can get togeather for some day hikes and check out some new woods.

MAD777,I think I did pretty good the second day. At least I did hear much complaining. Maybe I'll let someone else lead and knock the spiders down on our next hike. Might even let them push the Sherpa.
