Great concept with the netting/cover or fully open options. I'm curious about cost and comfort.

Wow, That is one sweet looking hammock! I hope that when you get a chance to do a trip with it that you will post a field test review.

Thanks guys, this one did turn out pretty decent.

    Materials:
Hammock Body - 1.1oz Coyote ripstop (DIYGS)
Netting - .9oz Noseeum from (OWF)
Overcover - Coyote Momentum 90 ripstop from (Thru-Hiker)
Zipper - #3 coil w/ double tab sliders (DIYGS)
    Whoopies - 7/64 Gray Amsteel, 6ft (DIYGS)
    Ridgeline - 1.75mm Lash-it (DIYGS)
Tree Straps - 1" Mediumweight Polypro, 6ft (Strapworks)
Zipper Hoods - Black Momentum Taffeta (Thru-Hiker)
Peak Bags - 1 Noseeum & 1 Coyote Momentum ripstop
Double ended stuff sack - 1.1oz Olive Brown ripstop (DIYGS)
Tie-outs - folded 1" grosgrain (local fabric outlet)
Misc - Drawcord, Cordlocks, Velcro, etc

Weight: hammock in stuff sack = 16.95oz (18.50oz with tree straps added)

Hammock body is 120" x 63" with 2" channel ends.

Note - the net and overcover are not removeable. Each one stores in it's own peak bag at the head and foot. They share a common zipper half on the hammock body.

One feature that was not shown is a small velcro tab at the head and foot end that mates with the end of the net and cover. This allows the net and cover to be partially unzipped, while being held in place by the velcro tab.

I may work on a removable version if someone orders it (hint, hint ), but we would have to use a heavier #5 molded zipper. I'm thinking the extra weight of the zipper would cancel out any weight savings of a removeable net and cover.

    Love It...

I love that hammock. PapaSmurf you did a great job, and just like everyone else I am definitely wondering about the price.

Oh I forgot to offer an explanation on the name.
I jokingly told Rip that all of my projects come out different depending on materials, mood, music listened to, etc.

He asked that I listen to lots of Neil Young while making this one.

Danger Bird is the second song on side one of Neil Young's album Zuma.

Very nice work. Very cool video. Thanks for sharing.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
