Appologies to my superfly

I've always tried to be an upstanding guy so I wanted to make a public apology to my superfly.

I took my new superfly out this weekend after taking the time to get it ready. Seam sealed, self tensioning guy lines, zing it ridge lines.

The second night saw some rain so I was sitting in my hammock and when heavy drops started falling from the trees, I felt some light splashing on my face. I was confused at first and though I was imagining things but it kept happening. I started thinking that the tarp was defective and somehow the pressure from the rain was forcing water through the tarp. I was tired so I just pulled my synthetic bag over my head knowing that a bit of moisture wouldn't do much. Woke up in the middle of the night for a call of nature and saw fog so my second thought was that there was a lot of condensation inside the tarp getting knocked loose.

Turns out that the tarp was fine and condensation wasn't to blame. Simply in my set-up (and having most of my supper without rain), I forgot to add drip lines.

So to my tarp, this is my official apology - my bad.

That dripline crap got me good one night. The value of a lesson learned, rather than a lesson you read about.

I'm sorry, and maybe little stupid, but why do You need drip lines, when talking about tarp set up?

Do You put the Zing it tarp ridge line under the tarp? And if 'yes' then may I ask why?

Ditto, I have never needed a drip line for a tarp.

But I have never used a tarp RL, so maybe that is why. Except under a HH stock tarp occasionally. But even with that one, there was a break between the under the tarp RL and the lines that went to the trees, with a ring separating the two, and 99% of that RL not exposed to any rain.

Maybe the water was running down the supports and onto the hammock ridgeline, then dripping down?

Knowing that I would be one of the folks who got the rain running into hammock in the middle of the night, I took one of those synthetic chamois clothes from WalMart, cut it into a couple of 3" X 3" squares. Put a small (ridge line width) hole toward the center top 1/3, and hooked one of the squares on each end of my ridge line.

The nice thing about the chamois squares is that they seem to wick water away faster than anything else I have ever tried.

I guess my question would be do you have an outie or an innie? Meaning, does your ridgeline go outside of your Superfly or inside it?

If you put your ridgeline above your Superfly, then use a couple of biners down to the rings that are at the ends of the Superfly and they'll act as drip rings (as opposed to drip lines).
