Id say if you don't want to argue about shipping don't buy from the seller. Its the same with ebay and other sites. Its you choice as the buyer to purchase the item from the sender. If you want shipping included in the price only buy from sellers who offer that in their terms if sales.
It's kind of like sales tax. If I go buy something in a store I wish the price I see included the tax so I don't have to figure it out. Psychologically its nice to see a price and that's the price you pay.
Whenever I sell something I always post the price that includes shipping and I always explain the method and leave it to the buyer to pay extra over what I am willing to cover.
I agree it should be worked out between the two parties but I don't think its unreasonable to have shipping already included in the asking price. As the OP mentioned there are already policies in place for sales threads such as "first i"ll take it" and "no personal paypal" for example. IMO it's not a big deal to ask people to include the price of shipping in their asking price.
If you are selling an item isn't the owness on you to know what shipping is going to cost or at least the responsibilty of finding out what it would be?

as a buyer you are not forced to buy from that said person

I'm talking about people who say its going to cost an extra $12 shipping which is reasonable if they ship priority, but then after you pay they ship it dirt cheap and you don't get it for several weeks.

The way I see it, these are all private transactions and between the two parties. HFboards aren't run for profit or as a trading blanket, it's just a perk of a bunch of great people loving hammocks getting together in one place, bound to be duds, that's life.
I know that outside of this forum, I really wouldn't be able to reappropriate gear into new gear and save myself money buying more and more stuff. Worth the couple bad apples you get on here.
