    Incoming hanger in Central Texas

I have been reading the boards for a few weeks now and thought I would introduce myself. Planning to make my own gathered end hammock in a couple of weeks. Plan start with a cheap tarp from walmart but then move up to a better/lighter tarp for backpacking. Want some thing I can use should I have to go to the ground.

OES has an excellent rep in the multi-use category; Wish I could speak from experience...
KM(who so far only has DIY nylon tarps, but much experience with the cheap blue tarps- they tend to be good for one severe storm, then you need a new one, great for keeping the nuts, leaves, and sun off though.)

Hi Wizard, and welcome! I started the same way ... with a cheap hammock from Walmart and a blue tarp from there as well. I moved easily to an ENO DoubleNest as finances allowed. Kept replacing the blue tarp with different sizes till I figured out what size worked best for me. Stepped up to a Kelty Noah's 12x12.

Have you started messing with cordage yet? If not, DON'T DO IT. It is addictive. You will not have time to actually use what you make cause you will always be making new stuff!

Have fun. Glad to have you here.
