My name is Mike and I live in NE Florida. I actually was born and rasied over on the Gulf coast, in Bradenton. I used to camp out as a kid and into my teens, but had not camped for decades until almost a month ago when I and my son inlaw hiked several mile into the Smokies along Deep Creek.
We both used tents and figured after the fact that we had seriously overpacked. Starting with our trip home, we began discussing options for lightening our backpacks and I mentioned seeing some folks on another forum that were using hammocks. I began to research the subject of hammock camping and was referred to this forum about a week ago. Since coming here I have purchased an Eno "One Link System" from Eagles Nest and although it came with "Slap Strap Pros" I decided to make a set of Whoopie Slings. I bought some round aluminum stock from Home Depot to make toggles for my marlin spike hitchs, cut it to length and am planning to cover them with some heat shrink to help them grip the webbing. I have thus far made the whoopies and an adjustable ridge line as well.
On a more personal note, I am married to my incredible wife of almost 32 years, we have three daughters, and two grandbabies, a girl and a boy.
I am looking forward to continuing to read the forum and want to express my appreciation for all the great articles and info!
Mike
