layer IX uq and down uq

Has anyone ever layered an IX underquilt between the hammock and a down underquilt? Any condensation problems? Any other observations or thoughts?

It has been done and that's probably the most sensible order. I tried IX under the UQ and ended up with lots of condensation. While not a complete vapor barrier, in my experience it doesn't breath very much so it should be used close you your body to minimize the chance of condensation.

I have done it also. I have done it top and bottom. You have to be careful with condensation. The IX should be closest to the body.

This is my go to configuration for really cold weather. I have a DIY IX UQ with 2 layers of IX. I have it next to my hammock and then put a 3 season Phoenix under that. I have gotten down in the teens with this. It works well. I have never had any condensation issues with IX as a UQ. Top quilt is a whole different story. I use my IX top quilt (2 layers) in the summer, though sometimes it feels clammy. I like the lightness and weatherproofness of it.

In the winter I use my IX TQ as a sock over the hammock. Raises temps inside considerably. I then use a down sleeping bag as a TQ.

I always use my Shamu IX UQ--even in the summer--right up underneath my WBBB. When it gets cold enough for me to add my Phoenix UQ, like now, I place the Phoenix on the outside. So far, I haven't had any condensation issues. Went out for a couple of days this weekend with the Shamu and Phoenix setup, and with temps at night down to 19-21*F, no condensation.

I am going to try this as well! I have my DIY sewn poncho liner uq with 3 layers of IX. With my winter incubator over that I should be able to handle some pretty low temps.
