    Welcome to the forum.

I can't think of any plans for tarps right off the type of my head, but on diygearsupply they have some good plans that will help out with sewing and some other diy items

Asking what kind of tarp is best for a hammock is like asking what kind of tires are best for a car! There are as many opinions as there are tarps, and it depends on what you want out of it!

I'm happy with the MacCat Standard for the combination of good coverage and low weight. But in winter I'll often carry an 11x10 JRB tarp for the additional wind protection, and in summer I'll sometimes carry the stock HH BULA tarp for its light weight and still-good-enough-for-summer coverage.

Then there's the question of doors. I think I'm gonna get a cuben cat tarp with sewn-on doors for this winter's camping season.

Sooo....what's the best tarp? Try them all and you won't have to decide!

    Welcome from BC Canada.
Just Jeff and Shug provide great answers. For DIY its all money, time, patience and ability with a sewing machine or thread injector.

If your wife can make a tarp, she can easily make a hammock also.

If you decide not to make your own tarp, Brian at OES makes some really sweet ones.
