Greetings Earthlings! Tarp Idea's

Plan on getting a Hammock for X-mass. Thinkin' a Blackbird. Never even used one before, thats how new I am to this whole thing. My Wife is going to make the Tarp. She's good at that type of stuff. So any suggestions for Tarp style let me know.

I do a ton of Backpacking in the great State of Michigan. Going to do Isle Royal again in the spring. Did it four years ago. Cant wait to do the Hammock thing. The group I go Backpacking with, almost all use Hammocks..

What style of tarp do your friends use? I've only got a SuperFly. It's a good all weather tarp but if you're only going in the heat of summer, maybe a bit more then you need. And if you went from it to a Cuben, 3 season or just a minimalist tarp you'd probably save 3/4ths he weight and definitely most of the packing size. If your wife can sew I bet she can tape or at least you two could have a group project and MAKE your own Cuben tarp. Being experienced backpacker you may have a better idea how little of a tarp you need.

Welcome to ya! The Blackbird is a great hammock and you will really enjoy it. While waiting on Santa to bring it you spend some time browsing around here and you will be rewarded witha wealth of useful information.

Look at the Blackcat tarp for a basic all around tarp and then you can look into a larger tarp idea with a Backwoods Daydreamer Winter Dream tarp. They are no longer made but you can find the plans at diygearsupply.com. Scott is a great guy and will help you in any way he can.
