Got down to about 20 degrees

We camped at a roadside campsite in the Adirondacks Tuesday night and the temps got down to 26F in the closest town. So I estimate it was near 20F where we camped next to a lake. No breeze at night so no wind chill factor. and it was 65F during the day so it was not a sustained 20 degrees.

We used blue walmart pads (cut into 36 inch lengths and arranced sideways so they curled up around us) and 20 degree synthetic bags for top quilts. My son used his weathershield in his Clark. I forgot to bring my homemade weather shield for my Claytor.

We were both reasonably comfortable wearing heavyweight polypro bottoms and tops, and a poly hooded sweatshirt.

Well there has been snow on Mt. Marcy into the summer. And Of course Mt. Washington (not in the Daks granted) has had snow all year round at times. But some of the Daks are on the same latitude as Mt Washington. It can get chilly up there.

The southern part of the Daks are that bad. It can easily get to the high 40's at night even in the middle of the summer.

Did you use multiple pieces of these cut pads? Your results were better than mine (using a ¼X40X60" pad and dressed heavier)...I felt uncomfortable cold coming through the bottom at 22° and bailed during a backyard experiment.

I've long considered boosting my pad's performance with pieces of blue foam (e.g., my sit pad) for those nights that break my 25° limitation.

nope, just the two pieces. I think the big factor was the lack of a breeze.

Wow, thats crazy, 20. I slept outside for the 1st time in my hammock last night and it got down to 60, I thought I would be fine in a t-shirt and fleece pants. I was fine for about 3 hours, slept great. Then I woke up and I was freezing!!! I need to break out the sleeping pad next time.
