Tips on making a tarp w/doors

Planning to make 12x10 tarp with doors. I'll be using 30D stuff and it's slippery. I would like to use velcro to close the doors. Any design considerations or tips. Thanks.

Here's a thread link on the subject with many ideas http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=41628

I have not been able to get to mine yet; some day soon, just too many projects right now with all of this DIY.

    sewing tips

What is the advantage of the centenary cuts and are they necessary. Are they easy to cut (formula) and sew. What material do you use for the reinforcements for the pull outs? Any tips on sewing the slick material?

This is an excel spreadsheet that allows you to put in the length of the tarp and the amount of a cat cut you want to put on the tarp. To do mine, I get two pieces of thin 8' cardboard from my local sears, tape the two together. Half the length of the tarp on one side and half on the other. Then I measure straight down from the middle of the two pieces 5". Then I hang a string from the points where I marked the ends of the ridgeline. Next, I spray paint over the string and then remove the string and cut out along the line.

By taped the two pieces together, I can fold my template in half and it is easier to save back.

I just made a tarp this past weekend using this.

    11' ridgeline, 8' wide, 17.8 oz

I didn't put a cat cut on the bottom...but I plan on putting some tie-outs on each side.

These directions should cover your questions.
Cat cuts keep the tarp pitched tight and they work.

if you do not use grogain for trim, is it hard to do a rolled seam on a curved line? never tried it and looking for a good winter tarp design.

velcro door closeures require that the tarp be erected to a rather precise shape. ( and if you make the velcro tabs long enought to accomidate different angles, then you've got the same as the more typical shock cord closures) you could always erect the tarp, and then come back afterwards to adjust to that perfect shape..i'm personnaly lazy, and hate to readjust things. i like the doors with a slight over lap for this reason
