Cuben fiber tarps in cold temperatures

As I do my research for a tarp. One thing I am interested in is how well do the cuben fiber tarps hold up in cold snowy temperatures? A lot of the cuben tarps are listed as a four-season tarp. Are there any issues with snow loads?

That's a darn good question RJG and I hope some of those up north can respond with their experiences. I'm also curious as to the noise in a wind once the fabric gets cold. I'm a light sleeper

I live in sunny SoCal but I do get some snow up here at 6645'.
I'm looking forward to a report also.

I knew I could count on you Shug. After seeing what you put your DIY tarp through in your video ‘Tarp in a Tempest,’ http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...t=tarp+tempest you are more than qualified to run the cold test on the cuben fiber tarp. I am especially interested in how the taped seams hold up. I am trying to find a tarp for all seasons that is reliable.

I seam to recall some video reviews where you weathered through a snowstorm in your hammock set up. I look forward to your reviews.

Yeah did a snowstorm review in 2010 I believe. I'm off the end of December for quite sometime. If I'm lucky I'll get a good storm by the new year!

I don't foresee it being a problem. The HG tarp seemed no more noisy then my sil, or at least I never noticed it. Spent a good windy night out with the pull-outs tied down as well. I was certainly more concerned about the trees creaking and banging then any tarp noise.

I haven't been snowed on in mine yet(Camped on snow, but no snow fell when I was there)
Used mine in a very damp 20°F after a few hours worth of soupy mountain fog/mist then the clear skies and full moon came out, certainly had it's fair share of icing. At a 10pm toilet call everything, inside and out was covered in moisture. My tarp was especially wet.
Once that moon came out everything froze big time, Even the small stream near our camp. The ground grew an inch higher by morning.
Ice must have been 2mm thick on the outside of the tarp, 1mm inside. It was amazing to see.
I think at that point the ice was the crackly part, not the cuben material.
I am a GEAR JUNKIE and GRAM COUNTER !!

There, It's out. I said it, Ahh I feel better now
