Aloha from Hawaii!

Hey everyone,

I have been lurking around this site for some time and have been excited by all the awesome information. I am currently active duty Navy stationed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. I am originally from the southeast and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Living on Oahu I have found the camping opportunities are extremely limited. I do spend lots of days in my hammock at the beach though. I will be getting out of the Navy next Dec. and have found myself staring at camping info online pretty much daily waiting to get home and get into the woods, I have spent literally hours watching shugs videos online learning as much as i can about hammock camping. I have always loved camping and grew up backpacking in north Georgia and I have always loved hammocks but I have never put the two together and am super excited to do so. I hope to get fully educated on hammocking before I get back and I have found this to be the best place to do it. I hope to get to know you all through my trials and errors.

Welcome and thank you for your service in the Navy. My wife lived there in the late 70's-on Pearl Harbor (by the parade grounds), as her father was the Marine Sgt Major on base.

I was over in Oahu in August and envy the opportunities you have to explore that wonderful island.
I encourage you to hang wherever you are legally allowed. So many great beach sites are available! Look around for some other hangers from Oahu on this site (aka- gain local knowledge and some new friends!)...you could organize a hang. Post pics so we can all enjoy that wonderful place.

Welcome to HF from Bama............When you get out and head to the woods will you be doing it in the southeast or will you be relocating to another area? If you are watching Shug's vids and reading this site, you are well on your way to the best sleep you have had in the woods. Thank you for your service and we will hopefully see you on the trails.
