Well, I'm closer to the Pine Barrens in NJ than I am to any real hiking in PA, although World's End State Park up in Loyalsock Forest has some awesome hiking, seems like you're not too far from there, plus you're only about 50mi north of the 501 shelter on the AT which is where a lot of the guys get together for group hangs on occasion (although I haven't attended, YET! ).

    Greetings from Lancaster, PA.

From Bloomsburg you are in easy striking distance of the Black Forest Trail, the West Rim Trail and the Appalachian Trail.

Watch for group hang notices here on HF.

AS to equipment-study up on all topics here on HF. If you do not own any equipment-I would be careful to spend your funds carefully.
Go to group hangs and learn/see/talk to people who have been doing it for a long time.

    Have a happy journey.

Welcome, from Oregon! I just moved here from Pennsylvania - I've done quite a bit of hiking in the forests out your way. Loyalsock is beautiful, as well as the OLP, the Quehanna, and the BFT. I'd recommend the OLP or the West Rim Trail as easy/moderate hikes, but the BFT is worth the incredible effort required.

If I were you, I would definitely carry a tarp on any overnight. Sleeping under the stars is awesome, but it can be pretty inconvenient waking up to even a light drizzle - especially in colder weather or under a down quilt.

Experts are the ones who think they know everything. Geniuses are the ones who know they don't.

You need seek no rocky summit, for these high places are within you.
