Thanks RAW, very useful. For me, the included seam sealing with the Speer is the kicker. I like the additional ways to pitch the JRB, but without seam sealing (I'm not very good at it no matter how simple everyone else feels it is) tarps just don't work for me.

I have the JRB tarp and it took me all of 10 minutes to seal the seam. The SilNett comes with a little brush and one just paints it on down the seam. I let it dry overnight and sprinkled unscented talc on it to keep it from being sticky. BTW, I bought the unscented talk from a Dive Shop.

RAW, thanks for the review. Excellent points made by all on both tarps. Very informative thread in regard to larger tarps. Thanks for taking the time to share.

I figured that even though my "reviewing" skills are poor, just having a lot of photos of the two would help a bunch of folks.

For me, the important differences between the two are:

    SWT has dedicated ridgeline
(no swapping lines to different pull-outs or flipping the tarp around . . . just move some stakes)

SWT's storm-pitch maintains longer ridgeline (function of my first point)

In "standard" pitch, the JRB only needs 6 stakes (while the SWT wants 8 stakes. However, in other pitches, you may want more stakes for the JRB. Plus, you could arrange the SWT to only need 4 stakes by tying up the flaps)

    JRB has better colors
(just my .02 . . . some folks may prefer the light grey)

    JRB has neater stitching
    but
    SWT has reinforced pull-outs
(I don't think you'd have a problem with either tarp's quality in the long run)

I think they're both great tarps. Fantastic really.
    But . . . I can't help it--I'm still looking for the PERFECT tarp.

My new hammock arrives on Wednesday.
I'll be running out and setting it up ASAP and trying both tarps with it.

Hopefully I can make a decision on which tarp I want to sell first.
    I'll let y'all know.

But I'm still thinking there's something new and better on the horizon! (isn't that the way it always is?) And then the second tarp will be for sale.

    RAW, et al (junkies),

Behold the horizon..... Initial shipment of the JRB 8x8 Hammock Huts arrived and was shipped today to those on the preorder list....

It will be displayed and offered at Trail Days.... Limited initial quantities will sell out at TD....Now there is another good reason to hustle on down to Damascus.

The 8x8 Hammock Hut page will not go up until after Trail Days...

    See you there.

WHAT!!!! You mean to tell me there's another tarp OTHER than the JRB!!! LOL...

I have the JRB and eventually will own another or two...or three!!!

I like the color and the quality of the tarp. I've never set up all the different ways folks have done on here...but I will...it just goes to show the flexibility of this piece of equipment. JRB...thanks for such a GREAT product.

Well, I've gone ahead and made the decision . . . I still prefer the SWT design to the JRB design.
So my JRB is listed in the 4Sale section.

These 2 tarps are really close. I have been trying to decide this choice for a while. Although you comparison is excellent I still can't make up my mind. I'm just going to have to get them both.
