I have searched over and over in this forum but cannot find any concrete experiences on rain seeping down suspension lines into one's hammock and gear.
Does it happen? What do you use to prevent it?

You'll probably get a host of solutions but 99% of the time I do nothing to as haven't had a problem. I've seen water run down the line and drip of at the tail of the adjustable loop of the whoopie slings I use. I do carry, in my tarp bag, a couple of thin strips cut off of a synthetic chamois. If it looks to be a gully washer, I tie those onto the suspension to serve as a drip stop. Seems to work.
I've never had any water get in along my suspension. I'd say about 90% of my outings have involved a significant amount of rain at some point in the trip. I use whoopies and even though I wrap up the extra tail end of the adjustable end, I think the exiting portion drops down enough to avert anything that may work it's way down the line.

GLP has water get into his hammock due to his Black Bishop sack hanging over the end of the hammock and collecting water from the lines, which in turn dumped into his hammock!
Taking the loose end of your suspension lines and lightly tying them over itself -UNDER YOUR TARP) will add a drip line.
Putting a Dutch biner, with a continuous loop on your hammock, and connect your suspension to the biner will also work. Descender rings give the same result.
As others have stated, just add a "drip line" to prevent the water from getting to your hammock.
basically yes I have had water run down the suspension and get the hammock wet
BUT that was with an OLD Safari Deluxe with the sewn in straps
with any of my modified hammocks it has not been a problem because I will have a ring, a Dutch 'biner, or a WS tail under my tarp to divert the water from the suspension before it reaches the hammock
This was precisely what i was looking for, thank you all for your information.
I had the gathered end get a little wet once from water running down my Whoopies. But I cut a couple of strips of Sham Wow clothes into small ribbons. Then tied one each on my Whoopies where they would be under the tarp and it's never happened again.
