    Morning heavy duty socks

All, looking for something to replace the bulky and god awful crocs for morning routines around the campsite. Looking for something waterproof and can DIY like a slipper only I'm thinking a Velcro sinch around the ankle and maybe some wrapped shock cord to stay up on my calf. Any thoughts on some material and or construction??

Here is a link for something like you are talking about. http://www.trailquest.net/sandals.html Not being DIY, I went with these and really like them http://lunasandals.com/sandals/14-the-leadville-pacer With laces, on my scale came in at 7.7 oz (got the naked top).

    eh

that looks allright, but i'm looking for something of the bootie type of clothing so i can slip it on like a sock and not worry about falling out of them.

What's wrong with Crocs, or cheap knock offs... They slip on quickly, are waterproof..

How can you say they are heavy??? They weigh very little....

Ok when wet inside they are a nightmare as you slip all over the place, plus they have no grip on the sole on a damp track or grass. Been as$ over t!t a few times.

Anyway I use them on most campouts through out the summer... until I find better...Flip flips anyone?
    cheers

I assume you want something less bulky to pack then Crocs, that does not get soggy as you wander around camp in the morning and/or keeps your feet dry, that you can just stick your feet into w/out fussing with tight neoprene or laces.

I would try making a pair of mocs. If you want them waterproof, then I'd use something like a totally waterproof fabric and seam seal it. A one piece style would give you the fewest seams to seal.

I would also try a felt liner or some kind of hacked up wool sock foot stitched to the inside. Unless whatever socks you wear in the hammock are good enough.

Patterns for mocs are here (click around on the map to get to the patterns)

And just think, you can have fun sliding around camp on wet leaves! Hm....

    OK. Now I want some!

Goose Feet make an over-bootie for their socks. Water Monkey did a review on them and said they slip a bit. I like my Waldies. Lighter weight than crocs (who stole the design from Waldies) and I do not mind the bulk as I have no issue with squishing them (being more flexible than crocs).
