Video:Tarp suspension tensioning with mini biner

In this short video I'm using Zing-It and a cheap mini biner to show a way of tarp suspension and tensioning. It allows for easy readjustment of tension if needed. And it is taken down pretty easy afterwards without having to pick apart tight knots.

I often see Nite-ize figure nines used for 'knot free' tarp suspension and tensioning. But it appears that using a common mini biner will work just as well. They're also cheaper and easier to find in stores.
I guess it replaces a trucker's hitch knot, which is tricky sometimes to maintain the tension while tightening.

    What do you guys think?

    Interesting idea.

Looks like you've 'adapted' the idea that I used for your adjustable structural ridgeline on your hammock that I showed you at the last group hang. This is just another way to skin the proverbial cat.

    Cheers

seems a little complicated to me. I've used the biner to attach the tarp to the ridgeline the same way you started it there, but my RL is attached to the trees with an Evenk, and trucker's hitch. Basically, I use the Carbiners to replace the prusiks that I was using. If that method works for you though, thumbs up!

    @ Captain-smiley
seems a little complicated to me.
I did wrap it the biner more times than I needed to, and it works with less.
I should use the evenk / siberian hitch for the first knot. It's supposedly so simple and easy they say you can do it with mittens on. I doubt they were using Zing-It!

Exactly! I started with practicing the trucker hitch you'd shown me on the tarp suspension, but found it was hard to keep the tension until tying it off. I was also considering buying some figure nines that I'd seen used. Then I tried wrapping the biner like you had done on the ridgeline. I liked how the line holds tight until it's locked off. Is there a name for this?

If you want something really cheap and easy to rig ... even if your tarp's already pitched ... here's what I do

    Nice!

I like it - simple and less destructive on the line than a figure 9. And who doesn't have an excess of mini-biners laying around?
