    Am I weird?

Well, I kind of already know the answer to that question, but....

I read about the advantages of using a structural ridge line, so I set my sag, attached a line and I just don't like it. Something about having that line in front of my face and getting in the way when I get in and out of the hammock.

Please tell me I can still belong to Hammock Forums if I don't like SRLs.

    Please?

    David

I have a SRL for hanging my bugnet. Otherwise it's off the hammock! I don't like having that line in my face either!

Of course, folks say I am odd so me chiming in on this may not really count.

There is a special section for you. Non-SRL users can post, but only after the 10th post and all they can do is agree with the SRL users.

    Welcome

ODD ... WEIRD ... my kinda people! Happy to meet ya. You can always use a ridge line to fix your hang and make it detachable (Dutch makes some neat hardward for such a thing) but can't imaging ever bothering me by being over my head ... and what a neat place to hang a ridgeline organizer ... flash light ... glasses ... even if you're not in a hammock with a bug net. It can be multi-functional

    I don't use one either!

I use shock cord to my tarp or suspension to hold my bugnet up in my claytor clone. I like using different sags every night and I don't like lines in my view. Been more than happy with this setup.

I believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. A SRL holds up your bug net, gives you a consistent lie, makes it easier to hang your hammock, gives you a place to hang a light and other gear. The disadvantages can be largely overcome by moving the attachment points of your SRL further out from center. Since your suspension lines angle upward, the farther out the SRL is attached, the higher it is. I'd give this a try before you forego a SRL completely. But, hey, if you don't like it, don't do it! Do what works for you!

    Welcome
i think, if you leave a pair of the Mini Ridgeline Biners hanging from your suspension they still count as a SRL... right?

To each their own. I like mine and the benefits, where else would I hang my ridge line organizer? My son does not like them. For him they are only used to hold the hammock sock up, or the bug net up, otherwise he doesn't want it on.

They can get in the way and be a pita but i do like them to hang stuff on. I have Dutch biners connected on one end of my SRL so I can just unclip one end to keep it out of my way while lounging in the hammocks.. After a while with your favorite hammock you can just look at the setup and tell if it's perfect even without a SRL...it just takes practice.
