Illustration - Quick-&-Easy Method to Thread Suspension on a Gathered-End Hammock

I don't know about you, but trying to thread suspension through a gathered-end hammock can be a challenge. Have you tried slowly feeding the suspension by itself? Tedious. How about using a small wire to pull it through, only to have the suspension line unhook half-way through? Yeah, me too.

Here's another method I discovered. It works so well, I'm going back to my gear box to upgrade the rest of my hammocks who've been waiting so patiently for their turn.

The trick is to use a small pipe. Anything that is small enough in diameter to fit into the end channel should work fine.

    Enjoy!

Brilliant, simply brilliant. I have so many DIY things lined up for winter, this will make them go by yet quicker.

I see a page being added to "The Ultimate Hang".... Great job, and I will definitely use your idea when I thread my next hammock. Maybe this weekend.

a good idea - one possible improvement is in the finishing step "Tie a lark's head knot to finish" - the way I do this is to form a lark's head in the loop from one end then feed the other end through the lark's head and not just through the other loop - this results in a tight lark's head that will lock down on the other end of the loop and not come undone easily instead of a lark's head that is over all of the fabric and can come undone fairly easily

I like the idea but the pipe dimensions seem large. That would dictate large hems in the ends. I think 1/2" would work with any normal line used for end lashings. Nice idea though.

You know, I was half-way guessing on the pipe size. I did the illustration without the benefit of having the pipe at my side (*gulp*). I'll update the illustration once I get home to re-measure the PVC I used (I had two sizes on hand and both worked) if I'm way off. They were the kind you use for sprinkler systems.

Generally that would be 1" but 1 1/4" would not be in heard of. Looks good D. I like that trick.

Some channels are larger and some I have seen are smaller.....for really tight ones I use a long latch hook to reach through and grab the line to pull it through. As long as you keep tension on the line it should not come out of the hook. Of course with bigger lines that gets tricky as the hook is fairly small.
