    Hi Guys,

I'll try to come for the overnight, but will come out to say hi anyways. Haven't done a hammock hang in the winter so still figuring how to stay warm.

How is the fishing at Valens? The website says that fishing is from the end of June through the end of Nov. What about ice fishing? Does anybody know if there are perch in there?

I'm 99.9% sure they have ice fishing there. I haven't checked for dates yet but if I stop by for the day, I'll be fishing for the day and stop in for a coffee before I leave. Last I checked it is a catch and release lake and there is Crappie and Pike ..... no perch that I know of.
I do not wish to be disturbed - but I can't help it!

I did a rough count and it looks like between 10 to 13 people coming out. Will 2 sites need to be reserved?

2 sites will likely be needed if more than 6 people are staying the night. In the winter at Valens, sites are first come first serve.

See y'all there in 2 weeks.

    Merry Christmas

    Greetings

So how many people got new gear that they will be using at the upcoming hang?

I just received a big upgrade to my insulation system for winter.

    Cheers

Santa was good to me with regards to gear. Some of this gear will be for winter trips, others are just things I've always wanted but never bought. I received:

    • MSR EVO Ascent Snowshoes with tails
    • Coleman Lantern - white gas single mantle
    • GSI Glacier Stainless Ketalist
    • MEC Down booties
    • Toughstake Sand and Snow stakes
    • Bahco Laplander saw
    • MSR fuel bottle
    • Vargo chopsticks

I also accumulated some other gear for winter trips:

    • Columbia Bugaboot Plus XTM Boots
    • Optimus Svea 123R stove
    • MEC Gaiters
    • Pelican Snow Trek 4 to use as a Pulk

I'll likely bring a lot of this stuff to the upcoming hang to play around with.
I've always been a 3 season outdoor enthusiast but after my first few winter hangs last season I decided to expand my horizons.

Guys, would the hennessy Radiant Double Bubble pad together with a fleece blanket and appropriate rated sleeping bag be warm enough for this hang?

I have camped in the snow years ago as a boy scout and know what to expect as far as the ground goes, but. Have never slept in a hammock!

I am a pretty warm sleeper(light blankets in cold) but my girl is a bit of a cool sleeper(heavy blankets in cold).

The current long term forecast for Valens on Jan 7th shows a low of -3C (as of this moment). As for insulation, I would think that any CCF pad or thermarest type pad that you have from your ground dwelling days would work reasonably well. Also if you have extra sleeping bags, we could easily fashion underquilts with some extra cordage.

    Cheers
