    Howdy from Houston

58 years old and many of them in the woods. New to hammock camping unless you count the Army surplus jungle hammock I used a couple times in the '80s.

Anyone here hiking the Lone Star Trail?

I left Houston about 6 months ago. I used to spent a bit of time up by lake Conroe. That was a great place to hang. the LST was great because it's one of the few places you are not forced to camp in a designated campsite. Not to mention it's free!

Another cool place is the Lake Houston (used to be) State park. The city took it over but the remote camps sites weren't too bad. It's a nice 2 mile walk to get to them. I would often see dear along the way.

Just a word of waring about this place, it will cause you to spend money. I started with a cheep Byers. I now have a BBWB and I am looking at underquitls.

Nice to see some Texans and Texicans here, and the warm welcome recieved. I'm a Texican myself, by way of NH and then Ft. Sill OK, but have lived down in these parts twice as long as I live up yonder.

I've not done the LSHT yet. I'm of the Old School "Never Go Out Alone" crowd and as one gets older, partners in crime get fewer and fewer. Have camped and hiked in Brazos Bend, but until a couple of years ago, they had no primitve sites. The have one now up in the NE corner and am looking to try it out.

Also wondering if there are any Wichita Mountains fans out there. Its my favorite place on the planet.
