    WTB: Hammock within the UK

I'm looking to give the hammocking thing a shot in the new year, and with it educate my Scouts in alternative camping methods...

But I'm a Hammock noob and would love to get something second hand/cheapish to try and get some experience on. I'm sure i'll catch the bug, and would look at a DIY solution in the future, but if anyone has anything hanging around....

    Just let me know!

DD or Tenth Wonder (off ebay) have some okay starter options.

The Nomads Land XXL is a great buy if you want single layer.

The Warbonnet Blackbird is a very popular hammock around here.

Yes I see he is too.... Not a bad price all things considered... I may look at getting one myself next year.

But for a noobie that has yet to experience the joys of hammocking I'd suggest he try DD first. The Travel or Frontline plus whoopies come to half the price of the Warbonnet.

I've got the Travel hammock and I've just ordered a Frontline for my son. It has been an excellent buy for the last 8 months hammocking.

    cheers

I keep getting pushed towards the DD range, and for the price I dont suppose they can really be beaten...

Will be waiting for the new year, so might get a chance at a sale... Will have to try and pester them for a military or scout discount!

I'm not sure if there are export issues, but PlanetHammock.nl has a range of gathered-end hammocks.

There are very few UK manufacturers of camping hammocks... most of the top brands are american... Warbonnet, Hennesy, Claytor, Grand Trunk & Trek Light to name but a few.

The problem though when you buy them in the UK is the price hike, plus the shipping from the US.

A Hennesy will cost you £140 and the Warbonnet £120, if purchased through UK suppliers. I don't think other makes are available. So DD does offer good value, and make a good place to start... You might hate hammocks, some do. I'm happy with mine, but it takes a bit of gettng used to, setting it up so you are happy with it.
But as Shug pointed out, now Mark at UK Hammocks sells the Warbonnet I may well look at one of these.

    cheers

I think you're right in that the cost of most is pushed outside what i'd consider as an option to try it out...

Cant justify losing that kind of money if I didn't get on with it... I'd probably only lose £10 or so reselling a DD.

    Cheers for the help!
