If it's my car, no gas money will be needed...but I won't rule out Bob's Dairyland..

Thanks Wisenber...we'll see you all when you wake up-might have to motivate me. Hoping to get to RHK by midnight. Ask Roche to leave the light on for us!
Speedy recovery Thing1 and maybe you and your father reconsider if you get over the punies. I've never hung at Overmountain-looking forward to it.

No Roche on this one. He has a greater calling for the Scouts this weekend.
Being that the hike is about 7.5 miles and it will be chilly, an early start probably won't be needed, but I'll feel a lot warmer once I get my pack on.

    +1 on wishing Thing1 a speedy recovery.

At least it is not going to rain.

I hope my new tarp gets here in time.

Might want to pack a thermos for the hike. The highs on top may not exceed freezing...in which case you be sipping on an icee instead of water.

A dusting of new snow is predicted at the higher elevations and the temp to remain below freezing for Roan High knob and Jane Bald. Low Saturday night 7º - 11º.

That's why we're hiking to the Overmountain Shelter Saturday. It's about 1700' lower and a good bit less windy.

Still, it may be a chilly trip across the balds along the AT. There's not much cover to block the wind, and it won't be all that sunny. but hiking should be warmer than hanging around camp.

I'm going if for no other reason than to see Wisenber sleeping in nothing but a ShiverShield jacket!
If we get a break in the weather this is one of the top 5 sections on the entire AT for grandiose views. The hike out Sunday on the Overmountain Trail is a gem in itself.
Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

It looks like it may actually be cold enough to bring the shiver shield. I hadn't planned on bringing it until the forecast changed.

That is why I sure wish I was going this year. I would love to see all the balds in an alpine like setting. Also I met a lot of good people last year and would like to see all again. Everyone stay safe and have a great trip.
