WTB - Helping a Friend get Setup!

I have a friend from Zombie Squad who wants to get into hammocking. I think he might even be looking to hammock this January. I'm a terrible influence on him, because my suggestion always is "just buy the best $%!@ you can afford and go out there!". And of course I pointed him to Hammock Forums. He should be signing up here soon.

In the mean time, I told him I'd help him by putting out an APB to help him find good deals on the gear he needs in hopes that some kind souls have an excess of nice gear they can pass on to a good friend and future hanger.

His list (according to me - it could change):

    Warbonnet Blackbird Dual 1.1
    Superfly
And some bad *** winter underquilt of warmth +1

I think the Blackbird is set in stone, but any good deals on high end tarp and underquilt are always welcomed. Please hit me up with what you have, and if Jeff ever gets his butt over here I'll point him to the For Sale section.

    Thanks!

I'm the friend in question and I did create an account here, but it's still a lot to take in. When you start looking into a hammock you're blissfully unaware of the dozen or so suspension systems, underquilt makers and all the options for a tarp.

I'm hoping someone will have some gear they're looking to unload and help me get started as a hammock camper.

    Thanks,

    -Jeff

Just make one.....slap a suspension even if it is just line and start. Don't allow it to become complicated.....like fishing, start with a cane-pole and bobber and fish from the shore. Work upwards from there.

And follow the link at the bottom of Shug's post. In ten or so installments you can get most of your questions answered.

"Try to distinguish between what you need and what you wish you needed."

    And take Shug's advice.

Also, be patient - wait for Spring.

I think I've just purchased my first hammock and I did it through these forums. Now I'm down to just a few things left and I'll be able to get out and do some hanging.

    Thanks,

    -Jeff

I've never owned any of te-wa's quilts, but seen some in person. Good stuff.
