    Does a longer hammock give a flatter lay?

    So I have an ENO double and I'm wondering if I moved into a longer hammock would I get a flatter and more comfy lay ? Keep in mind it needs to have a considerable weight limit.... I'm upper 200's.....ok ok almost 300 lol. So what would be my options and would the idea work ?

    Ok, first I have to announce that you can take this post seriously Now with that disclaimer out of the way, I love my Eno Double....I'm tall, and lets just say I'm no longer slender I can get a pretty flat lay on the diagonal in my Eno. However, I can almost get a flatter lay in my husbands hammock, which is a bit shorter, but wide. I don't know why ...but his is pretty darn comfortable and I don't fiddle as much in it as I do in my Eno Double.

    Generally;
    Wider=flatter
    Longer= less shoulder squeeze

    I have a DIY hammock that is nearly 6' wide and 12' long. It is very flat and no squeeze at all, but as a gathered end hammock the sides are floppy. Other than that I love it. I could post a pic if someone could tell me how to get it off of my iPhone and onto this forum.

    I get a really flat lay with the WL Lite Owl and was thinking about adding a Night Owl to the lineup...

    I have noticed that I get a flater lay with my heavier hammocks, (1.9 & 1.7dlb's) compared to the 1.1 dlbs of the same hammocks because there is less sag...

    Hi Beast,

    Curious what you made the hammock out of. Any specs? That's the EXACT size I've been thinking about making, but I don't want it to weight a ton. I'd love to see what you've done there.

    Thanks for any details you can offer!

    See here is my thing? I get an ok lay. I have it set up in my basement and the straps are... 7" high and 15ish so wide. The amount of sag was so so . I added a RL and wow what a difference. I have a really long RL so I pulled it as tight as I could get it. My sag increased greatly and my lay got much much better. Not perfect but much better. I really want more sag but I RL is so tight as it is I dont know if its good to make it any tighter. I could raise my straps but even if I'm hanging outside how am I going to get much higher than 7" up?

    My DIY hammock is 11' by 5' and I've found that setting a bit more sag than the average 83% gives me the flattest lie. It's currently at 105" and I'll probably tie it off at that length and call it good.

    The material is 8 yards of 1.9 rip-stop nylon, that came in a 72" or so width and has a marine digicam sort of pattern. I got it from an eBay seller that I heard about over these forums. I don't remember the price but, I do remember it seemed reasonable. It seems kinda thin for 1.7 compared to my WBBB but, so far so good. I used a Warbonnet style whipping and I think a regular whipped or cable tied ends could do wonders taking up some of the floppiness of the sides.
