I go when the opportunity comes around. Weather, temps, it doesn't matter. If it's a bit of a challenge, it's that more enjoyable when I get back home. All make good memories, especially when a little "adapt and overcome" plays in.
Hammocked in temps like a 100 F , humidity I never measured, but think SE Asia and the Amazon.... wet season.... even North Australia just after the wet...
Some nights I actually needed/wanted my poncho liner to wrap around me in the hammock
Let's say I acclimatize easily :roll eyes:

I grew up in Minnesota. Like you I thought Minnesota summers were hot and humid ... until I moved to Washington, DC.
My first summer in DC I could not believe people could ever have settled in that swamp. It made Minnesota summers feel very cool in comparison.
Yes, I believe hammocks can be slightly cooler than a tent in summer, especially when you can do without mosquito netting. (Yes, I know the mosquito is the Minnesota state bird.) Of course, that happens only on windy nights when it tends to be cooler anyway.

Here in Florida we like it hot. In fact we went out in the middle of August and it was great! Trip report: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=37902 We're thinking of making it an annual outting. "Dog Days of Summer Yak & Hang"
Truth be told, except for South Florida, we don't get much hotter than you do - we just get there sooner and stay there longer. And mercifully, we don't get as cold in the winter.

So many trees, so little time...
Piedmont & western NC heat, humidity, and often dead still unless your at some elevation - even with nothing but mesh overhead I have spent some miserable nights in a tent. Could be just my perception, but I swear laying in a hammock is 'cooler' than setting on a stump.
Not to mention those nasty little blood sucking black flies that seem to inhabit the north shore every August, even they go away close to dusk...Years ago I worked with a Florida native and a humid 98 degree day up here was like a walk in the park to him. Remember that when we walked out into that day he told me I might not even run the AC on the way home LOL...
Can anyone on this board reccomend a reliable lightweight personal fan?
Thanks.
If the average temp between the day, high and the night's low is above 70, I stay home!
I've lived in Florida all my life and I'm sick of the heat.
Hence my reason for buying a vacation/retirement place in the White Mtns of New Hampshire!
It is in the 80's as I post this on Dec. 21st!
