    Playing Instruments While Hanging?

Anyone play instruments from their hammock?

I will bring my mini djembe or an acoustic guitar (depending on location and packing parameters) to play while relaxing in my hammock from time to time. I find it easiest to do chair style and love the environments effect on the sound, as well as the rhythmic sway I inevitably create, only adding to the relaxation.

Problem is I have yet to find the sweet spot for playing as each position gets uncomfortable after a short(ish) period of time unless I put my feet on the ground and who wants to do that?!

Any suggestions or simply experiences playing instruments while hanging are welcome

I know that it's hard to play hand drums w/o your feet on the ground...Have you tried a Bodhrán? Different playing style, but you could prob lay back and play...

I play my harmonicas and sing. Small and easy to carry and I can make them cry or laugh depending on my mood...oh and mostly when there is nobody else around to bother.

I won a case of harmonicas off ebay, don't know how to play, but it just seemed fitting and something I felt I needed to go with my hammocking experience.

Harmonica hard to learn? Have thought it would be the perfect camping instrument.

Ah yes, harmonicas! That would surely be most convenient, or perhaps an ocarina!

I usually drum sitting on the edge of the hammock with my knees holding the weight of the drum with the base off the side. Laying down while drumming changes not only the angle of striking and gravitational assistance but also in the impedance of sound out of the drum itself, or so I've noticed.

Will be adding harmonica to my essential pack list!

We sometimes carry a lightweight acoustic guitar on short trips. My son and I both play. I also have a native american flute I made and sometimes take it.

I've got about 20 vintage saxophones. I have not tried using one in a hammock yet. Perhaps at the Mt Rogers Hang in January?

One of my favorite things to do when hammocking especially solo is play my harmonica. I'm just starting, so I make sure no one can hear me.

I like my flute or tin whistle, (I always carry both) usually only when solo. No leverage required SO, no feet on the ground needed.
Don't know why I don't play when others are around when hiking, cause I do play in public for semi large crowds at the ren fest I work at I did play for a few minutes at the after Thanksgiving trip, but while Don & Scott were getting water. I don't think I did that on purpose, but,,,,,,
