They help to hold the pole from shifting side to side on the ridge line loop. So that you don't get your poles out of balance and flexed more on one side versus the other. /\ Rather than (\ if that makes any sense.

So, the pole goes through both, and then you cinch down on the pole with the adjustable shock cord? Izzat right?

I am definitely going to be ordering this tarp in the near future. The money drain just never seems to end with hammock gear.

Yes sir, that is correct. I made my shock cord in to a figure 8, so there are two loops of shock cord for the pole to go through. Add a dab of seam sealer to the loop on the tarp and it sticks pretty good.

Brute, What would you like to know?
Setting up in the wind or rain = PITA!!! It is a large tarp that takes some time to setup. (It is easier to setup than a tarp with separate doors, but it is still difficult.)
Protection from the wind or rain = Excellent. I put my son under this tarp with me and we tied our hammocks off to the sides with the loops and cooked under the tarp. (That addition is very nice.)
Lesson learned = I typically setup with the wind hitting the sides, but the gusts will flex the poles and push the tarp in to the hammock. You will have to use another stake and some extra guy line to tie that side out. I now carry 8 stakes for this tarp.
If you have any specific questions you would like answered, let me know. I have played with the tarp a little this year and I have become quite fond of it.

Just wanted to know that everyone was still happy with it... I am looking for a bigger tarp for winter and wet weather... My eno pro fly does well with fair weather and light weather issues... But I know for anything with any large wind or cold I would need a larger tarp...

What's the weight with poles and all? I didn't see it on the page and heard conflicting weights I think...

My tarp (11' ridgeline) is right at 30 ounces w/ poles, stuff sacks, Zing_It guylines and Dutch hardware.

I am very happy with this tarp and I would purchase it again. I have picked up a bunch of stuff since joining this site and this is one of those pieces that I will not sell or trade.

Thats a bit dissapointing to hear that you need to stake out the sides for wind gusts. i guess if your going to do that, then why carry the poles anyway? Do you find this tarp harder to setup than any other in the wind and do you have any tips specific to this tarp? I hope to recieve one shortly to use with a bridge hammock and would appreciate any pointers.
