To zip or not to zip?

I'm narrowing my choices of hammocks down and I think I've got it down to the Hennessy Hammock Expedition Asym Zip or Non zip...So the question is, does a zipper make a huge difference? Is it there just to make it easier to get in and out? Do you have a hammock that zips and don't find it that big of a help or maybe you can't live without your zipper?

side zip or bottom entry,,, all a preference. Side zip is nice for winter when you can have it open so as not to collect breathe condensation in the netting. As for ease of entering, that's once again a preference. Some say bottom entry is easier, some say side zip. Depends on the person.

When I bought my Explorer Deluxe Asym, I was sure I wanted the bottom entry. After "trying" to use it in cold weather with a down comforter under me and a sleeping bag over me, I got quite claustrophobic and had to come out of it. I'm planning on sending it off soon to have a zipper mod done to it.

I have a HH that was modded by ZQ2Q with zippers. I don't believe the bottom entry has been used in the 3+ years since I had the mod done. Less wiggling to get situated with zippers.

I bought the Expedition Asym Zip because I thought it would work better with an underquilt. Now that I finally have an underquilt, I cannot imagine how cumbersome it would be to adjust the underquilt with a bottom entry. I'm sure it's doable, but there are a lot of things that are "doable" that I just wouldn't do.

I'm also wondering - can you even use the bottom entry as a camp chair without a zipper? When it's raining, I spend a lot of time just sitting in my Asym Zip with the mosquito net thrown over the ridgeline, maybe reading a book or cooking or carving wood. I don't even take my boots off 'cause I'm not laying in the hammock.

I got the HH UltraLite with the Zip.
    Same....
once I got the UQ thing going , there is no way I would not have a Zip.

I like both, but the Zipper model will re-sell better if you ever decide to change.

I have a HH ultralight backpacker and had the 2QZQ done.

Once you zip you don't go back!

I sure like my zip model. Entry issues have already been discussed. What I like about the zip model is the ease of reaching things through the zip opening.

if you're unsure, get the bottom entry, and budget in a 2qzq mod.

    best of both!
