    Ramsey Cascades, Great Smokey Mountains

Just got back from a little getaway with my much better half and some friends in the Smokey's. We had plans to hike 2 days but rain forced us to hike the outlet malls one day. Funny how that worked out.

We did get to make a day hike to the Ramsey Cascades. It's four miles in with about 2000 ft. elevation gain. The trail follows the river providing some amazing views the entire way. Fog had settled over the mountain but lifted as we approached the top.

I wish we had taken some better pics to establish the height of the falls. It's over 100 feet and truly breathtaking. If your ever in the area it's well worth the trip.

Beautiful looking scenery ... but I'm not sure how much your wife is trusting you standing behind her on that bridge!

You have no idea!!! She is TERRIFIED of all bridges. She almost turned back when she saw the first footbridge. She kept saying "you knew we had to cross this bridge!!!!" I honestly didn't. Here is a pic of how she crossed. She'll smack me good when she sees this.

My wife and I hiked this trail a number of years ago and it was raining very hard and almost freezing. We got the the falls and sat on a rock to eat lunch; a mouse came out to beg for food. I know it it against park policy to feed the animals but we shared our lunch with him.

    Gorgeous pics.

Wow, great pics. I recall when I was living in K-town, a few buddies and I hiked that one day years ago with a foot of snow on both the ground and in the foliage. We then decided to make a trip to Max Patch and on to an Asheville pub. Oh the days without wives, kids and responsibility!
Afoot and light-hearted, I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me, leading wherever I choose.

Great pics of a great spot in the Smokies. Glad your wife was able to get over the bridges--they can be a bit dicey for those who are not accostumed to them. You're right, thought, sometimes even great pics cannot do justice to being there. Thanks for sharing these.
