    Indoor Suspension?

Getting my first indoor setup within the week and had a quick question. I'm hanging an XL Brazilian hammock in a traditional post and beam home. This will be my sleeping solution every night. My question is for those who hang in their homes. Do you use any type of spring or other support to hang your hammock? Or do you simply use a carabiner to hook everything up? Thanks

Just a hook or biner for me. Trying to imagine what the ride would be like with springs. Probably a little rock and roll.

I can't say I've seen anyone use springs. I'd probably have difficulties getting in and out of my hammock if it was on springs since I'm bigger guy.

I sleep in a ceiling hung Brazilian nightly. Details here.

Don't see a need for springs but rather than use metal biners I use soft shackles to connect the suspension ropes to the pad-eyes to avoid any sounds from metal on metal.

Hey Knotty, that's the exact hammock I just received. What's the hanging distance between your two hanging points? Also, are you hooked right into the hanging points or are you running a length of rope to them? Looks like I'll be running rope but wanted to know if I could use tie down straps instead. Really new to all of this but looking forward to getting started. Appreciate the help.

BB - My ceiling attachment points are 190" (15'10") apart. The distance from the eye on each end of the hammock to each ceiling attachment is 28". I use 3/8" single braid line for that. My ceilings are the standard 8' height and I'd estimate that my suspension lines are at about 45º. Don't know if this is the ideal. It's just what worked in my room and I've been sleeping that way for quite a while now.

I just ordered one of the XL hammocks (like yours) a few days ago, but they're on back order - they will ship 1/7. My ceiling is 8'8" high. How much further apart than yours should I make my attachment points? Am I right in thinking that at 45º they would have to be a further 16" apart? Assuming I wanted my hammock to be the same height and hang as yours.

To keep the geometry the same, you'd add 1' to the distance between the ceiling attachments for an 8-1/2' ceiling. So that's 16'10" or 202".

Thank, that's what I thought. It's 8" higher then your ceiling, so at 45 degrees it would have be 8" longer at each end. It's going to be kind of hard for me to test it anywhere else. I could hang it from the floor joists in my basement but it's only 7 ft high there. I suppose it would have to be almost on the floor to get the same distance apart at the suspension points.
