    shower curtains?

Hey, has anyone ever tried using a shower curtain as a tarp? I mean think about it... they are pretty big, water proof, fairly light weigh, sold every where and did I mention cheap cheap cheap. Also they come already packed up and ready to go. Of course they would be considered disposable. But for a buck who cares. So has anyone ever tried this?

i guess it depends on how you want to use it.

i'd feel uneasy taking a 1$ item out for more than an evening when not near the car camp site- especially when its my #1 source of protection from the elements.

20 miles from nowhere, i'll pay for the assurance that a shelter built from high quality materials affords- and the weight it reduces.

all that said... a clear vinyl shower curtain would be cool for novelty.

A couple of steps up from the $1 plastic or thin vinyl, there is the polyester water proof shower curtains. They're $8 to $15 depending on if you need some decorative power or are just plain. They would be stronger too.

All other considerations aside, a shower curtain just ain't big enough to keep ya dry.

My experience is shower curtains can make ground cloths but are too small for a hammock tarp. YMMV
