UQ - without using the pad

Merry Christmas to all the Hanger's out there!
I'm wondering if i could get a UQ (winter) that would keep me warm without using a pad? I have a new neoair all season pad just never used it in a hammock.I use a pad right now just wanted to get away from the pad. Thanks,HS

Yes. The reason I use the uq is so I don't have to use a pad. You can supplement with the pad if you'd like for colder temps, or just match an uq to the season. I've made 3. Summer, spring/fall, and winter.

Im not sure about the underquilt but I am 90% positive that the neoair wont keep you warm in a hammock during the winter (I couldnt use mine below freezing even when i was a ground dweller).

    Try this video…

I’m going thru the same process… I’m thinking of the HG 20* Phoenix. I believe it’ll give me more versatility in all weather being that it’s a 3/4. In cold weather I’ll use a short ccf pad or reflectix inside my foot box (like in Shug’s video). Then in warmer weather I won’t need the full length… Just my opinion.
I hope this helps you some...

    neo air

FWIW... I tried a Neo Air in the hammock and it was both very slippery
and terrible for insulative purposes. Worst night of sleep ever.

Ya, I can't imagine using any inflatable mat in a hammock. I use closed cell foam pads which conform to the shape of my body inside the hammock quite well. In order to accomplish this with an inflatable it would require to deflate alot of air which would lower the insulation value.

I found that the only really comfortable way to use a pad was in the bag... Of course that wasn't foam. UQ saves a lot of pack room and doesn't give that tight mummy wrap feeling.

I've got 2 neoairs and didn't like either even on the ground...the ones i got were way too narrow even for tent use....contrast that with my last underquilt-its 50 inches wide custom thanks to LeighLo.

Merry day after Christmas HS! And of course you can get an UQ to keep you warm at most any temp, though sometimes there is a learning curve! There are quite a few great models to choose from. Plus, depending on your hammock type, there are PeaPods and even HH Super Shelters. Your only problem will be choosing what is right for you from all the good choices!
