Welcome Wex from sunny Seattle WA. I think mad777 has the right idea. Buy something fairly inexpensive, and tinker with it a bit, gain some knowledge and then start buying up every other hammock [**** hammocking, costs me a fortune]. Soon after that you may even discovering that you can do all sorts of crazy things once you go DIY.
I was in a very similar place to you not to long ago. Discovered hammocking with an ENO, which is sort of an in expensive hammock, had a bad case of "gear lust" and have bought and sold nearly every hammock out there. Even tried the BlackBird for a bit, and while it was made very well, and a nice hammock, it just wasn't for me. The integrated bug netting just never suited my fancy.
By the way I LOVE carrotcake. Cheers

Howdy from Georgia!
Wim/Wex, welcome from another part of Holland
carrotcake ;-)
I know several hammockers in Brabant but not sure where you are exactly. I sometimes hang there too.
Anyway, a Planet Hammock looks like a good place to start or a Ticket to the Moon (around € 35 at Zwerfkei). No bug protection but a great option for bug-less times.
I have used my Hennessy since 2003 and with a modification (2qZq) it is even better. Never felt the need for a footbox [I am 1.86 mtr and about 80 kg) though friends of mine let me use their WB to compare. Felt the difference but not enough to swap ;-) (yet?)
UKhammocks do a good deal on zippered bug net hammocks, both Warbonnet and their own. For starters go with a Planet Hammock or a Ticket to the Moon. A lot wider, lighter and more comfortable (imvho) then a DD.

Hey Wim,
I was in the same situation as you not long ago.
I never even seen a hammock before, but I really liked the concept and with all the enthusiasm from users and Shug's videos - I had to have one.
I also needed to rationalize the (very high) price and wether I really needed this thing.
To summarize: If you can afford it, do it. I can almost guarantee you won't regret it.
In worst case - put an add on the forum and you'll sell it easily.
I bought WBBB 1.7Dbl and Superfly and these are some of the finest things I own. They just work and are very fun.
I prefer to buy quality products (even if the price is high) instead of experimenting with something inferior witch will need to be replaced too soon.
I'm 1.90cm and BB feels very roomy and comfortable.
You can get them from the UK now:

I never used an UQ but I can tell they I great after an experiment I've done.

Thanks everyone for the great replies! Especially Balkan Boy, great report and nice pics! And for Johan; I live in Uden, east Brabant.
I'm still leaning towards the BB. But the next few months I don't have any time to go hammocking so I can read a lot more before making up my mind. ;-)
