I received a response from the vendor:

    • He has offered to provide materials for a replacement shell.
    • He also suggested spraying the fabric with a water-resistance fabric spray to see if that would help
    • He will be testing the fabric to see if there is an issue with the entire batch
    • I invited him to comment on this thread

Bottom line, he is standing behind his product, and is actively working to resolve the issue. I will have no issues ordering from them again.

Before I break it down, I will spraying the fabric with a water-resistance fabric spray to see if there is an improvement. I am a little concerned with this approach because I don't want to harm the down and don't know how long it will last.

Anyone know how to remove the down from the quilt to add to the new one?

    Thank you for you help

I heard, have not tried, to put some no-see-um in between some extenders to your vac hose and try to suck the down out of your old shell. Also, try to operate in a tent so that no down will disappear and, use a new bag in your shop vac just in-case. check with others b4 trying. good luck

If you totally make another shell, and that would not be fun. Then you can just dump it one baffle at a time into the new quilt. It will make a mess. The vacuum with bugnet will work. I'm hoping spraying it will do the trick for you. You can expact some down to come out.

Hoping for the best for you.

Hey Gang, this was the end of the last roll of "Coyote Brown" from DIY Gear Supply (my store). It was 750fp down, not the highest end, but certainly good enough to handle well in any standard downproof fabric.

I really appreaciate William getting in touch with me on this. We've sold hundreds and hundreds of yards with no negative reports back so far, so I am hoping this was just a bum section. I will be testing the new rolls (though all I have is a box of 850fp, no 750fp).

In the mean time, I have removed the "downproof" tag from that fabric and will not put it back up until after a good testing.

We do now have in a batch of olive brown that is both calendared and has DWR.

If anyone else has purchased this Coyote and has had real problems with down coming through, please contact me. I want to get to the bottom of it as much as you do.

And William - your new batch of materials goes out tomorrow morning. I'm sorry about your down coming out and the work you put in. I know a new set of fabrics for a replacement shell doesn't cover your time.

No question that Scott is a stand up guy. A little sppoked though since I ordered some coyote brown recently but sure there is no issues. Looking forward to seeing the new down beast!

Here is a poor picture from the quilt. Hard to see, but there is down (750 fp) poking through the fabric.

When I let it "puff up" and then compress it I get a mini snow storm.

Here is a link to my build Album: https://picasaweb.google.com/106216455273275488293/Hammock#

Next Step: Removing Down - I saw some hits on YouTube about just vacuuming it out, but I don't have a vacuum with a hose except for a shop vac, and this is a karo Step quilt so it will be a little tedious getting it all.

Pondering options of down removal, and open to suggestions for all you smart people

I just purchased 4 yards of 1.1 downproof Coyote Brown, and 3 yards of 1.1 Olive for an UQ project. It will be a few weeks before it's done and put to use, but I'll keep you in the loop. I'm probably using 750 FP in it.

Thanks for being a company that stands behind your sales. That's what makes this site and it's vendors great!

Following up on a suggestion to use Camp Dry to down proof.

I added several coatings of camp dry to the quilt, and let it dry for a couple of days. After testing it out I can confirm a small improvement. Not much at all

Next step, i think i will add another layer f down proofed fabric.

I hate to give up on this one because it is my first karo quilt, and i know I will loose down if i have to try and pull it out.
