    70D HEX fly/HHED

    Please Help!!!

I can't fit my HH Explorer Deluxe and my 70D Hex fly in my snake skins.

Am I doing something wrong here or do I have to put my fly in it's own skins??

    Thanks, (I'm new be kind)

The Explorer is kind of big. I don't think I'd expect them both to fit in the HH snakeskins.

You could make some skins which would fit both, but I'd recommend keeping them separate, even a separate ridge line for the tarp. That way the hammock won't get wet after packing up in the rain, and if you're setting up in the rain, you can put up the tarp first and then work in the dry underneath. Just my $0.02.

I'm new too, and have only been hanging on my 9 acres so far, but I experienced the same issue. I squeezed the Hennessy and the Hex fly in once, but it was such a tight fit I thought it was gonna explode!!! It also made it unwieldy for packing.

I decided to pack the Hex fly separately to have it handy for setting up in inclement weather. That way I can set my hammock up under shelter or just set up the fly if I'm taking a lunch break in the rain. I think it's 'whatever works for you.'

Snakeskins come in several sizes. I think #4 is the largest. Your Explorer Deluxe is bulkier than an Explorer UL and the 70D Hex is bulkier than the Silnylon version. I doubt you will have much luck fitting both into one pair of 'skins unless you make a larger version than the #4. Let us know if I am mistaken about the above information.

    Wow.

I have no comment on the hammock question but wanted to mention that we live about an hour from you.

Have been through Drayton many times!

I've got the HH Hex, and HH ED hammock. You CAN fit both into the #4 skins that HH ships with the hammock...it's mostly a matter of practice more than anything else. You've got to wrap everything up relatively tightly together, and then use one hand to compress the hammock/tarp as you pull the skin down with the other hand. Not at all uncommon to end up with a big knot in the middle that takes a bit more work to get into the skin, but again, doable.

The suggestion to get another set of skins and hang/skin the tarp and hammock seperately is a good one...that's the way I've gone too.

Much more flexible solution...you can hang the hammock and skin the tarp up on nice days, you can hang the tarp and skin the hammock on lousy days so that you've got room under the tarp for a couple of people.

I've had my Explorer and Hex in the same skins. Not too difficult if you wrap everything up tightly. I'm another one that has switched to putting them in separate skins. Best solution for me.

I keep my tarps in snake skins and the hammock in a stuff sack, for the following reasons:
    easier to pack
    keeps hammock / bedding dry
only tarp and skins are wet and can be packed out of pack
and the biggest reason is I can set my tarp up for foul weather all staked out and then roll it up in the skins (leaving the stakes in the ground) and enjoy the stars. Then if the weather goes all pear shaped I can deploy the tarp and be back in the hammock with the speed of a thousand cheetahs
