    Dutch Hooks as tarp connectors

Here is a quick shot using a Dutch Hook (the Ti kind) to connect a tarp to the ridge-line. I use 6" pieces of zing it to connect the hooks to the CRL in a 3 wrap prusik.

It makes the tarp easy to get on and off the ridge. I initially thought about using a gated biner or something like that to connect it. But these weigh 0.6 grams each. My 25' zing it ridge-line with a dutch hook and flyz system for connection to the trees and two of these hooks on the line for the tarp come in at 16 grams total which is about 0.56 ounces for the metricaly impaired.

Very nice Rock. If you have somethin too big fer the hook you can pull the hook though the loop/d-ring and hook it on the same loopyou are using for your prussik. Not as clean looking though. You can also make another zing it continuous loop.

I was using zing-it soft shackle prusiks and found that at night, with gloves on, it was like trying to sew with boxing gloves on. The hooks are clean and simple. And they are so light even a gram weenie like me would have a hard time trying to justify going with something else.

Your idea would be even mo' better for bigger stuff.

    You're are a genius.

I highly recommend going with about 3 hooks and one Flyz with about 50' of zing-it. Use 25' to make your ridge line, another foot from the other 25' for the prusiks, and have the other 24' left over for various projects. Zing it is a great cord for many many uses.

So, SGT, are you using Zing it on Zing it? Meaning Zing it for your RL and a Zing it prussic? No slippage?

It is all 1.75mm zing it. I get good traction with the prusik using three wraps.

    Sarge (and Dutch),
Are you bending the hook open a bit? I don't have trouble hooking Zing-it or Dynaglide, but it can be tough to un-hook it. For those without a decent bench vise, how to you grap hold of an itty bitty hook to pry it open and what do you pry with? Inquiring minds want to know.

The way I pry them open is I hold them with needle nose pliers in the round loop. Then wedge a flatead screw driver in the hook. Try to resist the urge to twist and keep wedging it in. Once open it stays open real nice.

I'm not prying at all. All my hooks are stock.
