    Basement hanging?

If I wanted to go with eye bolts through my joists, what kind of weight rating should I look for in the bolt itself? If I don't have access to any climbing biners right now, how should I attach my suspension to the eye bolts?

Because of hanging higher, do I need to go further apart? If so, is there a rule of thumb?

I drilled holes in my joists. I hung parallel to the joist so I used the same joist for both attachment points. I just drilled a half inch hole which I have used for webbing loops as well as amsteel loops.

    Well, that's cheaper yet.

Did you just kinda fold your webbing and push it through? I'll have to see if my loop on my webbing will fold enough.

my "rule of thumb" is 15 feet apart and make sure the hammock hangs at a thirty degree angle. I have a hammock hanging in my basement (yes some people here in California were smart enough to dig a basement). I have it hanging via biners but the biners are attached to 3/4 eye pad bolts. Make sure your joists are up to the task.

Yeah. Actually I think it might closer to 3/4 of an inch. I wouldn't go much past 20 or 30 degrees from parallel of the joists. I'm not a construction guy but being in line with the joists seems to me to be stronger and safer. The holes are about 4 inches from the bottom.

I did the same, just tied some amsteel through the holes as loops, and I use biners to attach to these loops. Simple and elegant, and it keeps me off the concrete floor. It is so nice to come home from a trip and set the hammock, etc. right back up to air out.

Yes, more or less. I hung it just like I would in the wild, about 7-8 paces apart (so that the 30 degrees hang looked about right.) I wasn't very scientific about it.
