Thank you all for the warm welcomes, info, advice, and invites. I'll keep my eye out for a hang semi-close to home. Mohican and Zaleski are a bit far for me to do a one-nighter. With work & family stuff that's all I could do on those dates. I have a feeling that once I really get bit by the hammock bug I won't be saying that. Thanks again, Vonzo.

Welcome aboard. If you can whip together some winter gear real quickly there is an Ohio Hang January 20. Just click on the calendar link, go to Jan. 20 and go from there for more information. At least stop out and meet some of the Ohio group and see some of the set ups.

Hi DivaB, I read through the thread for the Mohican Hang. Seems like lots of good people going. Unfortunately I would only be able to make it Saturday and leave early Sunday. That's too short a time for me to justify the 3.5 hour drive up and back plus gas $. I was happy to see that you are taking your son. I'm trying to get my son, just turned 10 on 12/28, outdoors and if I can find a hang closer to home I think I'll take him. I think it'd be good for me to see what people have and good for him to be outdoors. Thanks for the invite, Jason

    Heya Vonzo!
I like my Hennesey Hammock. Got the Deluxe Explorer. It isnt light but I got the tarp and hammock for $200. Im 6'2" and I did weigh 275 until I saw a picture of myself at the beach and decided to change that! If you get one, I would recomend the side entry one. I got the bottom entry and I regret that. There are certainly alot of great hammocks out there. My wife loves her blackbird but the hammock and tarp will run you over your budget you have set. Hope to meet you some day!

Yes, it has really become a win win with Dakota and I, we have a great group of people here. I completely understand that kind of drive for just one night being rough. Just keep your eye out and do a random search for Ohio Hang every so often. Sometimes these are easy to miss.

Talking Thanks. I made a purchase!

Thanks to all especially Exup and Ccourtney. I went with the WB 1.1 DL, bug net, and superfly. Over my budget, but a local bank gave me $200 for opening an account. So my out of pocket was only $81. Now that's, a deal!

I'll be keeping an eye out for a local hang. I need to get out and start having fun tinkering with all those knots, whoopie slings, n such. And tarps! I might try to make a tarp for summer use one of these days. That's a mighty undertaking for a guy who has sewed no more than a pillow and a pair of sweat pants in home ec. They was some UGLY sweat pants.

As a side note, I have a 15 year old rope/twine kind of hammock. It is horrible to lay in and leaves a diamond pattern on the skin. I think I got it from Smoky Mtn Knife Works. Anyway, my son was chilling in it as I set up more cans and plastic bottles to shoot with his new BB gun. You should have seen the smile on his face. I think he might be a hammocker. Guess I'll be saving to get him one too.
