Skinning or BB bagging the tarp separate makes sense. Why wrap a wet tarp around your dry hammock? Plus I'm assuming most people hang there tarp and hammock separately? I haven't been able to hang a tight tarp attaching it to the hammock direct (Hennessy ULBP). It looses tension when I get into the hammock.

Seems like every time I've set up the hammock the winds been a blowin'. The use of skins or BB bag would make life easier. Now thinking maybe skins for the tarp only. Stuff the hammock and attached Nest/Weather Shield into the JRB provided stuff sack. Next windy condition set-up "experiment" is to see if the tarp will provide enough wind protection to easily hang the hammock.

Thinking about the Speers Winter Tarp. What size SnakeSkins for just the tarp? No sewing machine or understanding how to use one. So I spend the $$$s. Anyone retailing BB bags made out silnylon? Will just "burning/melting" a hole in silnylon hold up?

    T-bak & Koala

Koala asked "Thinking about the Speers Winter Tarp. What size SnakeSkins for just the tarp? "

I'd like to know the answer to this too.
    What does everyone else do?
Easiest way to pack it all up without taking it all apart?

T-bak.. do you have photos of your "one big snakeskin?"
I'd sure like to see it!

I now have a SnakeSkin #3 for the SWT. Easy to stuff, fold & compress the skinned tarp. I'm guessing the #2 would work fine. Nice thing about the looser packed #3 is the easy folding and compressing of the package.

snake skins or the lack thereof!

Hard to explain but I use my pack, (cuben ) as my snake skin. one end of the hammock rope comes out the bottom of the pack, the underquilt (down) stays mounted under the hamm. but swings into the inside of the hamm. for stowing, the overquilt (down) stays in the hammock too. then the whole thing is stuffed in the cuben pack (the pack stays arround the foot of hamm rope when hanging,) slick as butter and the pack can be used to store stuff off the ground.! (as it is arround the foot rope (strap) suspension of the hamm. The rope of the foot of the hamm.(after stuffing the hamm. under & over quilts) is then stuffed into the bottom of the pack and secured with velcro. the pack has a large volume but with the hamm etc. weighs in at less than 3 lb! I some times carry a days food in with hamm. I carry much of the rest of my gear in a counter ballancing front pack.(cuben) I dont use shoulder straps. did a nice 12 mi pack along the Buffalo river in Arkansas last wk, nice. (cuben 9X10 tarp.)

PS snkeskins or the lack thereof!

In looking over some of the posted pics, the best explinnation for my prevpus post is that my pack is just like a bishops bag, and stays on the suspension system. Hope this might clarify my jumbled post!
